Rock Hill competes at State Track meet, Prosper’s Aubrey O’Connell runs 1st of 3 races Saturday
Austin - Rock Hill Blue Hawks track and field sent two athletes to the UIL Class 5A State Track meet in Austin and both performed well. Pole Vaulter junior Gavin Hecke vaulted 14.9 in the meet to pick up a fourth place finish.
Junior Jourdin Edwards captured a fifth place finish in the 100 meter hurdles running a 14.60. The time was better than her 14.95 time that captured first at the UIL Class 5A regional meet.
Gavin Hecke qualified for the trip to Austin as he set a personal record by vaulting 15-00.00 at UT Arlington in the Class 4A Region II meet as he won the event. Hecke will jump at the state meet at 1 pm. on May 7. The boy’s track team scored 10 points at the regional meet.

Prosper State Meet Update -
Austin - Proper was represented by Aubrey O’Connell who competed at the UIL State Meet in Austin. Class 6A will hold its events on Saturday, May 8. Prosper junior Aubrey O’Connell took home a 5th place finish in the 3200 Saturday morning with a time of 10:38.33. State title winner was District 5-6A rival senior Brynn Brown from Denton Guyer who finished the 3200 in 9:58.77. Everyone who finished the race in front of O’Connell will graduate this year which opens things up for O’Connell in 2022.
O’Connell began the day at 9:30 a.m. in the 3200 meter event. She also competed in the 800 meters at 5:20 p.m. and ended her day running the 1600 meter event at 7:50 p.m. The results of her final two races for 2021 were not available at press time.
