Rock Hill Lady Blue Hawks make playoffs in inaugural 20-21 season

The Lady Blue Hawks capped off their regular season by making the Class 5A playoffs as the fourth place team from District 10-5A. The Lady Blue Hawks are playoff bound in their inaugural season at Rock Hill HS.  They defeated Lovejoy February 2 at home, 50-41. Sophomore Rebekah Juett dominated with 24 points and nine rebounds, while Freshman Laney Hutson had 12 points and three rebounds.

The Rock Hill girls basketball team had the opportunity to make up several games and completed their district schedule finishing in the fourth spot in District 10-5A with a 7-7 district record and 13-13 season record. 

Rock Hill was able to make up one of the several games they missed when they dropped a loss to McKinney North 53-37 on January 27. Sophomore Rebekah Juett had 17 points and four rebounds in the loss. Freshman Laney Hutson had eight points and five rebounds along with Taylor Hagen with seven points and seven rebounds.  The Lady Blue Hawks are scheduled to play the games they missed due to Covid over the next week. 

The Lady Blue Hawks dropped a loss to Wylie East 66-43. Rock Hill had 28 defensive rebounds and did their best to hang with the league leading Wylie East squad. Rebekah Juett had 13 points and seven rebounds while Aariyahna Suggs got seven points, five rebounds and five assists.

Rock Hill lost to a very tough playoff bound Princeton team 62-28 on January 29. Junior Aariyahna Suggs led the team with nine points while post player Taylor Hagen had six points and eight rebounds.

The Lady Blue Hawks defeated Denison on February 1, 55-34. Rebekah Juett had 17 points while Caroline Caldwell added 12 points and Haleiyah Hayes got nine points. Rock Hill had a total of 25 steals and were a powerhouse defensively from start to finish.

Final District 10-5A records for the girls are Wylie East (14-0/23-3 - ranked 12th TABC), McKinney North (12-2/19-5 - ranked 19th TABC), Princeton (10-4/21-4), Rock Hill (7-7/13-13), The Colony (5-9/7-15), Lovejoy (3-11/3-17), Sherman (3-11/5-15), Denison (2-12/5-18). 

The Lady Blue Hawks will open their 2021 playoff run against Frisco Lonestar on Little Elm at 6:30 pm.

The Rock Hill Blue Hawks (9-3/15-5) dropped a close one 49-47 in a loss to Lovejoy to keep them in the third spot of District 10-5A. Anthony Williams led the team in scoring with 16 points and Grant Shaw added 12 points. 

The Blue Hawks also picked up two wins prior to dropping the loss to league leading Lovejoy. Rock Hill got a win on January 29 over Princeton 60-44. Grant Shaw led the Blue Hawks with 14 points. Gregg Jessen and Anthony Williams each had 13 points. 

On Saturday, January 30 Rock Hill took a thrilling 57-56 win over The Colony. The Blue Hawks have two district games left in the regular season against Sherman and The Colony. They are looking for two wins and the opportunity to move up in the playoff seeding.  

District 10-5A records at this point include Lovejoy (10-1/17-3), McKinney North (10-2/18-4), Rock Hill (9-3/15-5), Sherman (6-5/12-10), The Colony (5-5/8-12), Princeton (3-8/5-13), Wylie East (2-10/6-19) and Denison (0-11/0-15). 

Upcoming District 10-5A games include: February 4: Lovejoy at Sherman, Princeton at The Colony; February 5: Sherman at Rock Hill, Wylie East at Denison, Princeton at McKinney North; February 9: McKinney North at Sherman, Lovejoy at Wylie East, Rock Hill at The Colony and Denison at Princeton.   

District certification for District 10-5A Boys is February 16 and Bi-District competition begins February 18-20. At present Lovejoy (10-1), McKinney North (10-2), Rock Hill (9-3) are in the top three spots with Sherman (6-5) and The Colony (5-5) are fighting for the fourth spot.
