Prosper - After being eliminated from the playoffs Prosper High School (17-4) during the regional quarterfinals of the UIL Class 6A volleyball playoffs by state semifinalist Flower Mound the Lady Eagles have returned to the forefront with an outstanding showing in the District 5-6A All-District awards last week. This achievement was highlighted by Bailey Birmingham being named District MVP.

According to head coach Erin Kauffman, “Bailey developed this year into our most potent hitter. What impressed me the most about her was her consistency throughout the entire district schedule.” Kauffman also noted, “I have watched her from seventh grade season to now and cannot wait to see her career take off at Tulsa. She earned the respect of all of the district coaches this season with her dominant play.”

Senior Nikki Steinheiser was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year along with Allen’s junior libero Emily Canaan. Head coach Erin Kauffman noted, “Just the fact that she won this award as an outside hitter shows just how important and valuable she was to our team this year. Nikkis is such a strong competitor, she's worked hard the past three years to get her ball control to this point.”

Kauffman added, “She's sharing the award with the libero at Allen who has committed to play libero at the University of Florida; arguably a top five NCAA team every year, and the fact that our fellow district coaches put Nikki in that same category shows just how good she was for us.”

Sophomore Callie Keiffer was named Newcomer of the Year for the Lady Eagles. Kaufman noted, “Callie did a great job stepping into a starting role this year as a sophomore after we lost Mackenzie Jefferson to graduation.

“Callie possesses all of the intangibles to really be a superstar and add her name to the list of high level setters that we have had come through the program. Only a sophomore, I cannot wait to see how Callie evolves and I am so glad I have two more years with her.” added her head coach.

First team all-district team members from Prosper included senior Taylor Youtsey (middle blocker/hitter),  senior Sami Jacobs (outside hitter), junior Kendall Hewitt (right side hitter) and junior Jazz Ford (setter).

Second team all-district team members from Prosper included senior Riley Price (libero) and sophomore Brie Martin (libero).

Honorable mention all-district included senior Kialah Jefferson (outside hitter), junior Hayley Harrington (defensive specialist) and senior Carsyn Clayton (defensive specialist). Prosper’s Rachel Ward (2021) was named part of the District 5-6A Community Outreach Team.

Academic all-district from Prosper included Callie Kieffer, Hayley Harrington, Carsyn Clayton, Sami Jacobs, Brie Martin, Abby Goertemiller, Bailey Birmingham,  Jazzlyn Ford, Ella Chaney, Kamryn Vanatta, Maddy Melancon, Abby Crawford, Riley Price,  Nikki Steinheiser, Taylor Youtsey, Kialah Jefferson, Kendall Hewitt, Rachel Ward,  Logan Whitmire and Ashlyn Koegle.
