Rock Hill volleyball secures 3rd spot in District 10-5A
Team begins inaugural playoff run next week
Prosper Rock Hill varsity volleyball battled in an intense five-set match, beating the Princeton Panthers 3-2 and clinching a playoff spot in the Class 5A UIL volleyball playoffs that begin November 19-20. Set scores were as follows 27-25, 11-25, 32-30, 20-25 and 15-13.
The top four teams in District 10-5A will face off against the best of District 9-5A competing in the Region II bracket. That bracket will feature some of the top ranked teams in the state in Class 5A volleyball including the Number One team in the state, Lucas Lovejoy.
Junior Alexa Breslin and sophomore Ella Nowlin dominated the net with 13 kills each at the hands of setters Taylor Bass and Kirstin Fain who set 27 and 18 assists, respectively. On the defensive end, junior Hailey Smith added two blocks while Nowlin protected the court with 32 digs.
The Blue Hawks (8-6/9-13) played the Lovejoy Leopards in their final district match on Friday, November 13th. Rock Hill varsity volleyball played hard but came up short against the Lovejoy Leopards, losing in three sets (11-25, 13-25, 17-25).
Junior Alexa Breslin contributed all around with six kills and 20 digs. She was helped by senior Montana Crumbaugh who also had six kills for the Blue Hawks. Senior setter Taylor Bass and junior setter Kirstin Fain each added 12 assists.
The Blue Hawks finished third in District 10-5A and will open up the bi-district round November 19-21 against the second place team from District 9-5A. Opponent, location and date are TBA.
Prosper (14-2/11-1) swept Rockwall today in a non-district match up. The set scores were as follows 25-15, 25-14 and 28-26. The Eagles are finished with district play and await the UIL Class 6A playoffs that begin November 19-20.
Top performers for Prosper on the night included Sami Jacobs with 17 kills and two aces, Bailey Birmingham had seven kills and Ella Chaney got seven kills and three blocks.
Defensively Brie Martin got seven digs, Jazzlyn Ford contributed 20 assists and five digs and Callie Kieffer got 26 assists. The Eagles are playing non-district matches to prepare themselves for the playoffs while the remainder of the district finishes district play.
