SGLY: Moving forward

A level path is a soft teacher. We often gain the greatest insight through struggle. In my steep stumbles and sharp falls, I have learned the importance of both the setback and the comeback. My prayer is that 2021 is a comeback year for all of us who have had our fair share of setbacks.

COME BACK to the arms of Jesus, exchanging weariness and worries for Christ's comfort, strength, and peace. (See Matthew 11:28.)

COME BACK to the truth that we are custom-made, worthy, and accepted, put here by God for such a time as this. (See Ester 4:14.)

COME BACK to your "Yes." Yes, Lord, I will be obedient. Yes, Lord, I will trust, follow, and serve You. (See Deuteronomy 13:4.)

Rather than project insecurities, may we yearn to infuse praise into our evolving space - flooding our thoughts with a fragrant hope that rebukes doubt.

Embrace change. Heraclitus said, "No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man." Dip and dive into the unknown waters of a new year with tender hearts, bathing wounds in cleansing wisdom, trusting God to complete our healing by His grace, mercy, and unending affection.

Instead of clinging to the past, cling to the Lord. And when your grip weakens, know it is only by His hold on us that we are deeply and eternally held. Strive to be a servant of His will rather than a prisoner to opinion.

Live intentionally from a position of God's power rather than your limitations. Cultivate an encourager's view and a seeker's joy rather than a complainer who silently broods and freely criticizes.

Replace anxiety with surrender – a surrendering of what is uncertain to a most certain Savior. May His love be our validation and may Love Himself become our highest motivation for thought and action.

Give up not on yourself but on things that make you less of yourself (i.e., comparison, an unhealthy habit, critical self-talk, procrastination).

Fortify your steps in the Word of God. Meditate on scripture, silence your mind in His promises, and steady yourself in His protection.

As we move into a new year, may whatever comes be an opportunity for a comeback - a come back to Jesus. In this daily returning, we will truly move forward.

SGLY, dear reader.

(Smile, God Loves You.)
