Rock Hill has 2021-22 senior showcase
Members of the Rock Hill High School fall sports departments and band gathered with the community to celebrate the 2021 Fall season on Aug. 21. The Meet the Hawks event was an event aimed at drawing attention to the teams as well as to showcase the 2022 seniors.
Mikel Ousley attended the event to support the band.
“My son Zander plays the trumpet in the band, so we are with the band,” Ousely said laughing. “This event is to introduce all the athletes and seniors for the fall. The band is a big part of the football program. These two go together. The band and football teams are their own entities but they work together in the fall. We are excited to hear the music. They have worked so hard.”
“The band will add more of their program each week, at each home game,” Ousley said. “Marching season started before school started. These kids would get up at 5 in the morning for their camp, six days a week. It is one heck of a deal. All the kids are required to attend and they work all day. We really want to invite people to come out to the football games and watch this band perform.”
Olivia Clark is one of the cheerleaders at Rock Hill.
“Meet the Blue Hawks was such a fun way to show school spirit to the community,” Clark said. “We worked so hard all week putting together a full routine containing tumbling, stunts, and a dance. Rock Hill Cheer is so proud to represent and support the best high school in the country.”
“At Meet the Blue Hawks we introduce all of our fall sports,” eleventh grade Kaylee Wood explained. “We cheerleaders performed along the RHHS Rockets and the Color Guard. It was such a great experience to meet new staff and students. One of my favorite parts was meeting the staffs’ kids and babies. We get to interact with them which puts a huge smile on their faces.”
“It is amazing to have people from the community attend events like this,” Wood said. “Since we are a brand new school, a lot of people come out to show support because we are building a family. As a school we are working hard to build a family that is welcoming to different people in our community.”
