Rock Hill High School graduates first class
Excited graduates, their families, and Rock Hill staff celebrated the inaugural graduation May 21. The students at this high school choose to attend the new school, which allowed them to be part of the first graduating class of the high school. Despite some wind causing some flying sashes and caps, the graduation of the 355 students in the Class of 2021 was a success.
Student Council President and Valedictorian Madison Wells welcomed the families. “We want to thank the principal and the staff for giving us the best senior year any of us could have ever had,” Wells said. “We have had so much support from our families and the teachers, both in person and virtually. This is the night we have waited for all year. Tonight we turn our tassels to our independence. The moment when you walk across the stage and take your diploma marks the beginning of your life. Not your parent’s, not the school’s, but your life. Let’s get started.”
As these students had attended Prosper High School previously, they were given the choice to transfer to Rock Hill or to remain in Prosper High School. Transportation was provided to the new school. Student Rachana Mohan decided to attend Rock Hill because it was closer to her home. “What we liked is that the class sizes were smaller,” Rachana’s mother Manguala Mohan said. “While most of the students remained virtual, having smaller classes still made it easier. The senior banquet was one of the first times that we were actually in the school.”
“My daughter was excited to have the new school with the new technology,” Brad Lyle. “At first she was a little hesitant but this school is so nice, and had so many opportunities in a new building with new equipment. Also, the school is a mile from her house and that is so convenient.”
Dr. Holly Ferguson, Superintendent of PISD, said about the graduation, “Rock Hill High School Graduation was a celebration next to none. From the beginning, the seniors selected to attend the brand new high school in Prosper ISD and committed to creating a legacy and foundation for future graduating classes. The students of the graduating Class of 2021 are the future and it has been my honor to serve as the superintendent for such a special class in their inaugural year as a high school. I am so proud of each of the graduates because it was their commitment and dedication to their education that inspired me and gave me the strength to conquer every challenge. I am so proud to know that the students who graduated will be ambassadors for Prosper ISD.”
Rock Hill High School is located at 605 E. 7th Street in Prosper. Principal Dustin Toth said, “It is a great honor to be able to open up the first new high school in PISD. I cannot wait to see all the amazing things our students will accomplish and the traditions that will continue to thrive at Rock Hill. Go Blue Hawks!”
