Prosper tree lighting goes digital
The Town of Prosper Parks and Recreation hosted a Facebook Live Tree Lighting this year. This event took place on December 7th at 6 pm. The video is available on Facebook on the Prosper Parks and Recreation page and on YouTube at https://youtu.be/Z09KKN_NTyo.
The event began with Tim Urban singing two songs and playing the guitar. Afterward, the director of the parks and recreation department Dudley Raymond welcomed viewers to the virtual event. Members of city council counted down the tree lighting and Urban flipped the switch. Everyone practiced the CDC recommended social distancing.
“We are glad you’re here to join us for the Prosper Tree Lighting,” Dudley Raymond said. “We are sad that we are not able to have the Christmas Festival this year but we are glad that you are joining us on Facebook.”
Mayor Ray Smith addressed the citizens on the video. “Welcome to the first Covid Christmas-tree lighting event,” Mayor Smith said. “Hopefully it is the last one and that we do not have another one last year. It has been a crazy year, and I am thankful for your patience and wearing masks. Thank you for hanging in there with us.”
The town Christmas tree is located at Prosper Town Hall, 250 W. First Street, Prosper.
