Prosper ISD announced that it has named Shawn Williams head boys basketball coach at Rock Hill High School.

The campus, which is under construction at 16061 Coit Road in Frisco, is scheduled to open in August.

Williams is a graduate of Duncanville High School, where he played on the school’s 2007 state championship-winning basketball team. Two years later, he was given the Texas Mr. Basketball honor, which is awarded annually by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches to the top high school player in the state.

At Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Williams played basketball and earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology. He also served from 2013-15 as a graduate assistant coach.

In the years since, Williams, the father of two young daughters, has worked as a special education teacher and varsity assistant coach at MacArthur High School in Irving.

“Coach Williams is bringing a wealth of knowledge from college basketball to high school basketball, which will be critical in building the Rock Hill basketball program,” said Valerie Williams, Prosper ISD athletic director. “His passion and love for kids and basketball will be evident to anyone that meets him. He is the epitome of a player’s coach, and we are looking forward to his energy propelling the Rock Hill program forward.”
