For the Prosper Press

ALLEN - The Eagles’ varsity squad came up just short in a high scoring barn burner on the road Feb. 7 in District 9-6A (II) action against Allen with the score of 78-75.

Prosper (24-6, 8-3) started the ballgame off strong with 19 total points in the first quarter. The Eagles’ defense was able to limit Allen (27-4, 11-0) to only 14 points of production in the opening minutes, allowing them to take the momentum and lead early. Prosper kept up the pace with a huge 22-point second quarter and again keeping the lead after Allen was only able to put up 17 more points on the board. This gave Prosper a confident 41-31 lead going into the second half.

Unfortunately for the Eagles, their fortunes quickly changed in the third quarter of the game.

Allen managed to put together a strong offensive push that saw them drop 22 points while limiting the Eagles to a game low 11 points, erasing the Eagles’ lead and replacing it with a slim 53-52 Allen lead.

It all came down to an intense back and forth in the final minutes of the game where the Eagles came up just shy of victory.

Prosper posted 23 points in the fourth quarter, a game high for the Eagles. However, Allen managed to just stay out of reach with a huge 25-point fourth, giving the ballgame its final score as the last buzzer sounded.

Mondo Battle II had a fantastic game for the Eagles with 19 points, 4-4 free throws made, six total rebounds and two steals.

Ammon Allan shined on the court with 19 total points, 3-3 from behind the arch, 6-8 in free throws and five rebounds.

Grant Shaw had a strong performance for the Eagles with 16 total points, 2-2 at the free throw line, 6-12 on his shots, picking up six assists and three total rebounds.
