PLANO - The Prosper Eagles’ varsity took home a 9-6A (II) victory over the Plano West Wolves in a tight, 73-63, ballgame Feb. 4.

Prosper (24-5, 8-2) started things off slowly in the first quarter, only managing to accumulate a total of eight points in the opening minutes.

Meanwhile, Plano West (10-17, 2-8) was able to kick things off decently enough with a 15-point run in the first, giving them the early but short-lived lead going in to the second.

Fortunes changed quickly in the second quarter of play: The Eagles went on a 21-point tear and limited the Wolves to only nine points of production. This allowed Prosper to take over the game and claim a 29-24 lead going into halftime.

The third quarter was pivotal for the Eagles to get some wiggle room and extend their lead out of Plano West’s reach. Prosper did just that, ripping off a huge 22-point quarter and the Eagles defense did a spectacular job a limiting a strong Plano West’s offense to only 17 points. This allowed Prosper to take control with a 51-41 score going into the final minutes of play.

The Eagles put up a repeat performance in the fourth quarter, snagging another 22 points to widen their lead. Luckily for Prosper, they were able to limit the Wolves the previous quarter. Plano West came back with a strong 22-point fourth of their own. Unfortunately for the Wolves, they were unable to close the gap as the game wound down and the final buzzer sounded.

Mondo Battle II had a fantastic ballgame for the Eagles with 17 total points, three assists and four total rebounds with 22:32 minutes on the court. Grant Shaw had a great performance with 16 total points, four assists and he went 5-5 at the free throw line in 26 minutes of play. Neal Utrup had solid numbers for Prosper with 14 total points, going 2-2 at the free throw line, five assists, and 10 defensive rebounds in 25 minutes.
