It took another five set match for the Klein Lady Bearkats to eliminate Prosper from the volleyball postseason on Nov. 15.

The Lady Eagles had a 2-1 lead going into the fourth set, but Klein slipped past them 25-22 and then took the decisive fifth set 16-14 in the regional semifinals. Klein went on to lose 3-1 to Plano West in the regional finals.

While the Lady Bearkats opened up strong against Prosper in their match, winning the first set 25-16, the Lady Eagles stormed back to take the next two sets 25-22 and 29-27.

Junior Bailey Birmingham led all players with 16 kills in the contest, followed on Prosper’s side by junior Sami Jacobs with 14 and junior Nikki Steinheiser with 11. Junior Taylor Youtsey led the Lady Eagles with six blocks, which was double Klein’s team total in that stat. Junior Riley Price had 25 digs for Prosper, followed by sophomore Jazzlyn Ford with 18, Steinheiser with 17 and Jacobs with 16.

After cruising through the first two rounds of the playoffs, the Lady Eagles also had to go five sets before defeating Sachse in the regional quarterfinals on Nov. 12

The Lady Eagles won the first set of the match, which was played at Plano Senior High, by a decisive 25-17 score, but the Lady Mustangs came back to win the second set 26-24. Prosper then cruised to a third set win by the score of 25-17, before Sachse battled back again to take the fourth set 25-23. The final set was also very tight, but the Lady Eagles pulled it out 17-15.

The two set losses to Sachse ended a 13 straight set win streak the Lady Eagles had since a 3-0 loss to Plano West on Oct. 22 thanks to them blanking their final two regular season opponents — Allen High and Plano High — in addition to their postseason victories. That Oct. 22 loss to Plano West was the Lady Eagles only district loss this season and it snapped a 23 straight set win streak that dated back to Sept. 27, when Plano West won the second set in Prosper’s 3-1 match victory.
