After cruising through the first two rounds of the playoffs, the Prosper Lady Eagles volleyball team had to go five sets before defeating Sachse in the regional quarterfinals round of the playoffs.

The Lady Eagles won the first set of the match, which was played at Plano Senior High, by a decisive 25-17 score, but the Lady Mustangs came back to win the second set 26-24. Prosper then cruised to a third set win by the score of 25-17, before Sachse battled back again to take the fourth set 25-23. The final set was also very tight, but the Lady Eagles pulled it out 17-15.

The win moved Prosper into the regional semifinals last Friday against Klein, but that match was played after press time for this issue, and two wins away from playing for the Class 6A state championship.

The two set losses to Sachse ended a 13 straight set win streak the Lady Eagles had since a 3-0 loss to Plano West on Oct. 22 thanks to them blanking their final two regular season opponents — Allen High and Plano High — in addition to their postseason victories. That Oct. 22 loss to Plano West was the Lady Eagles only district loss this season and it snapped a 23 straight set win streak that dated back to Sept. 27, when Plano West won the second set in Prosper’s 3-1 match victory.

Plano West also advanced to the regional semifinals to face The Woodlands on Nov. 15, but that match was also played after press time for this issue.

The Lady Eagles rolled through the first two rounds of the playoffs, knocking off Naaman Forest High on Nov. 4 and Copperas Cove on Nov. 7, both by scores of 3-0.

Prosper opened the playoffs against the Lady Rangers in the bi-district round of the playoffs and took the first set in the match 25-10. The second set saw Naaman Forest put up more of a fight, but not enough as the Lady Eagles took that set 25-18 and then rolled through the third set with a 25-7 win.

Copperas Cove took down its bi-district opponent, Horn High, 3-0 by winning 25-9, 25-21 and 25-17.

That set the area round match against Copperas Cove. The Lady Eagles won the first set by the largest margin of the match, downing Copperas Cove 25-10. Prosper then took the second match 25-18 and the third 25-19 to eliminated Copperas Cove and move onto the next round of the playoffs.
