The Prosper Lady Eagles saw their district winning streak come to an end last week at home with a 3-0 loss to Plano West.
In addition to the Oct. 22 defeat being the Lady Eagles first district loss of the season, it was the first time the team had lost a set since its second set against Plano West on Sept. 27. Prosper won six straight matches since their victory over the Lady Wolves in the last match of September, including 3-0 victories against Allen, Plano, McKinney, Plano East, Rockwall-Heath and McKinney Boyd on Oct. 18.
That match saw Prosper defeat the Lady Broncos 25-20, 25-17 and 25-19 at home. Junior Sami Jacobs led the way with 10 kills in the match, while juniors Nikki Steinheiser and Bailey Birmingham contributed eight and seven kills respectively, and sophomore Kendall Hewitt also have seven kills.
Junior Taylor Youtsey had two of the team’s six blocks in the match, and junior Riley Price contributed 16 digs, while Jacobs had 11.
Plano West took the Oct. 22 match in Prosper 25-16, 25-22 and 25-14, with seniors Jill Pressly and Noelle Piatas leading the way with 12 kills each. For Prosper, junior Shaylee Shore led the squad with seven kills, while Youtsey had three blocks and sophomore Jazzlyn Ford contributed seven digs.
The Oct. 18 win over McKinney Boyd and Oct. 22 loss to Plano West moved Prosper record to 9-1 in district play and 22-8 overall on the season.
Prosper was back in action last Friday at home against Allen High and then hit the road to face Plano High on Tuesday in the last match of the regular season, but both of those were played after press time for this issue. The bi-district round of the playoffs is set to start Nov. 4-5.
Before the loss to Plano West, McKinney Boyd was the only district opponents to go to five sets against Prosper. The Lady Eagles won their previous match against Plano West 25-23, 20-25, 25-23 and 30-28. Jacobs had 15 kills in that match followed by 14 from Steinheiser and 12 from junior Shaylee Shore.
The Lady Eagles opened district play last month with a win over Keller High and followed it with a pair of 3-0 wins over McKinney High and Plano East. The Lady Eagles took their district opener 25-18, 25-13 and 25-21 on the road at McKinney High on Sept. 13 and then took care of the Lady Panthers 25-19, 25-23 and 25-15 in their first district match at home on Sept. 17. Prosper took the Plano West match 3-1 on Sept. 27 and then blanked Allen 3-0 on Oct. 1.
The Lady Eagles remained undefeated in district with home wins defeating Plano on Oct. 4 and McKinney on Oct. 8. They also defeated Plano East and McKinney Boyd 3-0 before the loss to Plano West.
