The Prosper Lady Eagles remained undefeated in district volleyball action last week with home wins over Plano and McKinney.
Prosper took both matches by scores of 3-0, defeating Plano on Oct. 4 and McKinney on Oct. 8.
The Lady Eagles took out Plano 25-19, 25-16 and 25-12, with junior Sami Jacobs leading the way with 11 kills in the match. Junior Shaylee Shore was right behind her with 10 kills and Bailey Birmingham had seven kills. Ella Chaney led the squad with four blocks in the match, while Jacobs contributed 14 digs and Riley Price added 10 digs.
The Oct. 8 win over McKinney High went 25-13, 25-14 and 25-21. Jacobs had 12 kills in the contest and Junior Kialah Jefferson had eight. Birmingham led the team with three blocks, while Jacobs had 21 digs and Price had 14.
The wins lifted Prosper to 19-7 overall on the season and 7-0 in district play.
Prosper and its undefeated district record were back in action last Friday for a road district match against Plano East and then hosted Rockwall-Heath on Tuesday, but both of those were played after press time for this issue. The Lady Eagles will next be in action Friday at home against McKinney Boyd High for another district match and then will see Plano West travel to Prosper on Oct. 22.
McKinney Boyd is the only district opponents so far to go to five sets against Prosper. The two teams last met on Sept. 24 and the match didn’t start well for Prosper as the Lady Eagles dropped the first two sets 25-22 and 25-14, but they then battled back with two very close sets — 25-23 and 25-23 — to even it before taking the final set 15-12.
Shore and Taylor Youtsey led the way to the team’s 63 total kills with 13 each, while Birmingham and Nikki Steinheiser each had 11 kills. Steinheiser also contributed a team high 18 digs in the match, followed by Jacobs with 12 and Mackenzie Jefferson with 11.
The Lady Eagles opened district play last month with a win over Keller High and followed it with a pair of 3-0 wins over McKinney High and Plano East. The Lady Eagles took their district opener 25-18, 25-13 and 25-21 on the road at McKinney High on Sept. 13 and then took care of the Lady Panthers 25-19, 25-23 and 25-15 in their first district match at home on Sept. 17. Prosper took the Plano West match 3-1 on Sept. 27 and then blanked Allen 3-0 on Oct. 1.
