High school is hard, especially when you’re the new kid on the block. For senior soccer player Joe Vannette, however, making the transition to Prosper High School was soothed thanks to athletics.

“I moved to Prosper at the summer before my sophomore year, and have been on varsity [soccer team] for the past two years,” Vannette said.

Vannette has been playing soccer since he was in the second grade and became more serious about the sport when he started playing club in middle school. He didn’t anticipate playing soccer in college, but never completely closed his mind to the possibility.

“I wasn’t really sure that I wanted to play in college, but I kept my options open,” Vannette said. “When the opportunity to play at [The University of Texas at Dallas] arose, I thought it would be a great opportunity and decided at the beginning of the year that that is what I wanted to do.”

With so many limited options for young men to play collegiate soccer in Texas, The University of Texas at Dallas offers one of the few men’s college soccer programs in the state. While he still has his senior year to finish up, he is excited for the new opportunities that UTD offers.

“I chose UTD because they have a great business program, which is what I plan on studying. I also really enjoy the coaching staff and players that I have met there,” he said.

Though he’s spend just a short time in Prosper, he said playing under Rogers has been a great experience for both his school and soccer career.

“Playing with Prosper the past couple years has been great, I’ve gotten that chance to play with some great players that push me to improve my game,” he said. “I’m really excited to see what college will hold for me, but what I think I will miss most about playing high school soccer is the friendships that I have made.”

Vannette joins a very talented class of seniors who will be leaving the Prosper program, and the three other seniors — Chris Nayler-Gress, Cole Fedorczyk and Xander Shelton — have already signed to play at the collegiate level as well. Vannette has netted one goal this season and continues to be a part of the Prosper lineup.
