The Prosper cross country team competed against top 5A and 6A programs in the Marcus I Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 2 at North Lakes Park in Denton.

The events were separated into elite and open divisions for boys and girls varsity and junior varsity teams. Both the Prosper boys and girls varsity teams ran in the elite division.

The girls team placed 12th out of 30 teams and had the second-best time among 5A schools. Leading the way was senior Emily Patterson, who finished 15th out of 224 runners with a 5K time of 18 minutes and 27 seconds.

The Eagles varsity boys were led by Wyatt Landis, who finished his 5K in 16 minutes and 38 seconds. The boys team placed in 19th out of 41 schools and ranked among the best 5A schools.

In the open division, two additional Prosper varsity teams participated in the 3,200-meter run. The girls placed 17th out of 29 teams and saw sophomores Reagan Beavers and Emma Kruse finish in the top 100. The boys finished 14th out of 40 schools and had top-50 individual finishes from senior Nicolas Guerrero and junior Spencer Marcum.

Prosper’s junior varsity runners impressed as well. The boys JV Elite team finished 9th of 35 teams while the girls finished 17th out of 28. Freshman Macy Owens a standout for the Eagles, finished with the 15th best time among 349 runners. On the boys side, Bryce Earls, Jordan Rose, Jacob Cronin and Zach Griffin all finished in the top 100 of more than 400 competitors.

Next up for Prosper cross country is the SLC Invite on Sep. 9 at Bob Jones Park in Southlake, Texas.
