The Eagle Cross Country teams made huge statements to start their season up Saturday at the Frisco ISD Invitational. With 15 schools competing, including every team in District 9-4A, as well as Allen, Plano West, Plano East, Plano High, Jesuit and Ursuline Academies, the Lady Eagles won the team championship.

The Eagle boys team also had a great race, finishing fourth place overall, just 15 points behind defending district champion Wakeland.

The Lady Eagles took to the course first and were led to the win by junior Carnley Graham in fourth place. Sophomore Kyra Drobny finished in fifth place, freshman Allie Taylor made a fantastic high school debut in sixth place, and junior Kristen Howell rounded out the Prosper medalists in eighth place. Senior Eleanor Jahant put an exclamation point on the scoring in 29th place, giving the ladies a score of 52 points, 33 points ahead of runner-up Plano West. Freshman Alexa Boushey also made a great high school debut in 69th place out of almost 130 runners.

The guys also had a strong showing, led by Senior Ryan Cleary, who brought home the bronze medal with a third place finish out of over 130 runners. Senior Tanner Mann ran a huge personal best with a 15th place finish, followed by senior Adam Hornyak in 29th, junior Nelson Morrow in 32nd place, and junior Aaron Meraz finished off the scoring in 36th. Seniors Colton Barnes and Alexander Toops finished a solid 39th and 46th, respectively.

In the JV divisions, there were also some terrific performances. In the girls’ division, freshman Abby Williams secured her first high school medal with a sixth place finish out of 199 runners. Freshman Mary Turner was 29th and sophomore Mary Korth was 34th, both also running fantastic races.

In the boys’ division, sophomore Justin McCoy also turned in a sixth place finish with a personal best of over a minute. Junior Jared Rickman also won a medal with his 10th place finish out of 188 runners. Freshman Cutter Nielsen made a nice debut in 25th place, and freshman Scott Owens finished in 52nd place. Senior Hunter Mann finished in 83rd place, and the boys were fifth overall in the JV team standings.

After a great start, the The Eagle Cross Country teams will get back to work this week and be back in action in North Lakes Park in Denton next Saturday at the Marcus I Invitational.
