From Staff Reports

Last week, the Eagles soccer teams made the short trip to Frisco Heritage High School to face the Coyotes and played to a 3-3 tie.

The last time the two squads faced off, it was a 6-0 victory for the Wolverines in the 2012 playoffs. The 2014 Prosper Eagles were on a mission to prove that they were not going to let that happen again.

The game opened with the Coyotes pressing the Eagles in their own half and creating some dangerous opportunities to score. As the first half wore on, Prosper began to find some holes in their opponents’ aggressive tactics, which allowed them to move the ball effectively.

Heritage took a 1-0 lead on a free kick midway through the first half, though. This setback only galvanized the Eagles, and they began to attack looking to even the score.

They did just that on a nice interchange between two forwards and a driven shot from the top of the 18-yard box. Minutes later they took the lead on a highlight reel shot from 30 yards out that flew into the upper left corner of the goal.

The 2-1 lead held into halftime, and the Eagles used that momentum to come out firing the in the second half to take a 3-1 lead. The Coyotes were not going to go away easily, however. As the second frame wore on, Heritage clawed back into the game with a breakaway goal to pull within 3-2.

Prosper fought off waves after wave of attacks, but they could not hang on for the win. Unfortunately, the team gave up a late goal on a corner kick, and they had to settle for a 3-3 tie.

The result brought the Varsity’s overall record to 2-1-2.
