Plano resident and business owner Mark Reid has been appointed County Commissioner for Precinct 1, County Judge Keith Self announced last week.

Reid, an industrial engineer and owner of IDEA Construction in Richardson, replaces Matt Shaheen, who resigned Monday to run for state office.

Reid, who has served on the County Planning Commission since 2011, will represent parts of Plano, Frisco, McKinney, Prosper and Celina until November 2014, and then run in a special election to decide who will complete the remaining two years of Mr. Shaheen’s four-year term.

Prosper resident Ann Lieber has also thrown her name into the hat to replace Shaheen. Lieber filed the necessary paperwork last week to enter the race for the Republican primary set for March 4, 2014.

Lieber moved to Prosper in 2006. She has more than five years of grassroots activism within Collin County, the town of Prosper and surrounding communities, Ann’s record speaks for itself in regards to her Constitutional ethics as well as her tenacity to seek the facts, demand truths, and stand up for her beliefs on the issues that affect those that she serves, according to a press release announcing her candidacy.

"Her basic principles are: personal responsibility, fiscal accountability and adherence to the Constitution. As Co-Coordinator of the Prosper TEA Party, Lieber stands for accessibility, transparency, and responsiveness in local and county government. Ann believes the People deserve a fair and prepared representative," the press release stated.
