Local recently got the chance to leave their mark on the construction of Rock Hill High School — literally.

On Oct. 4, the Prosper Independent School District hosted an event for administrators, staff members, students and parents — as well as anyone interested in celebrating Rock Hill High — to sign their names and/or write a note on a beam that will be used in the construction of Rock Hill High School. In addition to the beam for the future home of the Blue Hawks, the event featured food trucks, bounce houses, snow cones and Rock Hill spirit items.

The district broke ground on the site of its second high school last year Coit Road and Rockhill, just south of Highway 380.

The high school is slated to be open by the fall of 2020. The 97-acre campus will be a state-of-the-art facility. The 600,000 square-foot facility will include a competition arena, two practice gyms, auditorium, lab space, classrooms an interior courtyard, a multi-purpose athletic facility and other amenities.

The new school’s mascot will be the Blue Hawk with the colors being blue and black. The project was designed by Huckabee and Associates and construction has been managed by Pogue Construction. Both companies have worked together on projects multiple times.
