The Lady Eagles managed to hang onto an early lead to beat out the Plano East Lady Panthers, 9-6, in district 10-3A softball action.

Lexie Bell got things started for Prosper in the bottom of the second with a deep drive into right, good for a triple. Bell was brought around to score off a wild pitch to give Prosper a 1-0 lead before the last out of the inning was made.

The Lady Eagles struck again in the bottom of the third with an RBI single by Gabby Coffey, making it a 2-0 Prosper lead.

Plano East evened the score at 2-2 with a two-run homer over left in the top of the fourth.

Having no interest in a close ballgame, the Lady Eagles pulled away in the bottom of the fourth — Abbey Beasley started the offense with a sharp single past third and Jessica Malan laid down a bunt for a single to put runners on first and second. Ayden Allen got the job done with a hard hit ball that was misplayed by the Plano East third-baseman resulting in an error and a 3-2 Prosper lead. The Lady Eagles weren’t done yet, Marisa Mejia stepped in the box ready to do damage — she delivered with a three-run blast deep over center, making it a 6-2 advantage for Prosper.

Prosper managed to scratch another run across off an RBI walk in the bottom of the fifth. Plano East picked up a run in the top of the sixth, making it a 7-3 ballgame.

The finishing touches on the Lady Eagles offensive barrage came in the bottom of the sixth — Mejia picked up her fourth RBI of the game with an RBI single into center and another run came off a sac-fly, making it 9-3 Prosper lead.

Plano East snagged three runs in the top of the seventh to give the game its final score. However, it was too little too late and the Lady Eagles moved to 15-10 on the season and a 6-2 district record.

Mejia finished had a fantastic 4-3 night with four RBIs and two runs scored, Coffey went 2-4 with an RBI, Malan went 3-3 with three runs scored, Bell went 1-3 with two runs scored, and Beasley went 1-3 with a run scored.
