Starting next week, developers will put the hose in North Texas’ first — and so far only — Crystal Lagoon water park in Prosper.
The 5-acre water feature is part of the 2,000-acre Windsong Ranch community on U.S. Highway 380, west of the Dallas North Tollway.
The lagoon, which will open in June, has been under construction since last year.
Workers will start filling the big pool with water this week. Filling it up will take a week or two.
Along with sandy beaches for sunning, the Windsong Ranch Crystal Lagoon will be a venue for watersports including boarding, windsurfing, sailing, diving and kayaking.
It’s only going to be open to residents of Windsong Ranch, where almost 3,000 homes are planned.
Windsong Ranch developer Tellus Group is adding the lagoon as an amenity to attract residents to the 5-year-old residential community. Homes in the development range in price from $250,000s up to more than $1 million.
The Windsong Ranch waterpark is smaller than an 8-acre Crystal Lagoon that had been planned on the shores of Lake Ray Hubbard in Rowlett. That project was canceled when the developer pulled the plug on the elaborate centerpiece of the proposed Bayside development.
The city of Rowlett is working to get the project back on track with a new builder.
More than a dozen Crystal Lagoon projects are in the works across the U.S., with one of the water features open in the Houston area.
