PROSPER — The Prosper Lady Eagles varsity picked up a solid win in their, 5-1, victory over Allen in district 9-6A softball action.
The Lady Eagles kicked off their scoring in a huge four-run bottom of the first with a long RBI double by Sydney Lewis which brought Marisa Mejia and Ayden Allen, who picked up a single and a walk respectively to start the inning, around to score. With two Lady Eagles on the bases, Julia Bumford saw a chance to do damage and capitalized with a towering three-run homer over left field, cleaning up the bases and giving Prosper a 4-0 lead early.
Allen picked up their sole run in the top of the second off a sac-fly, making it a 4-1 game.
After three innings of little offense but crisp pitching by both teams, the Lady Eagles picked up their final run in the bottom of the fifth — a single by Bumford got things started and two following errors by Allen allowed Bumford to score and give Prosper their final lead of the ballgame.
Lady Eagles starter, Elissa Griffin, had a fantastic outing — going a full seven innings, giving up seven hits, one earned a run, and picking up seven strikeouts.
Bumford had a big game for the Lady Eagles: going 2-2 with 3 RBIs and a run scored; Sydney Lewis went 1-3 with an RBI, Mejia went 1-2 with a run scored and two walks, and Allen went 0-1 with three walks.
