MCKINNEY — Prosper Eagles varsity baseball put on a clinic in their, 7-0, shut-out victory over the McKinney Lions in District 9-6A action.

The Eagles kicked off the scoring early in the ballgame, scratching across 2 runs before even collecting a hit. A hit by pitch and a walk set up the bases for the Eagles and a costly error by the McKinney centerfielder allowed the Eagles runners to cross the plate and make it a 2-0 Prosper lead.

The offense quieted down for Prosper until the top of the fourth — an error and a walk got the scoring runs on for the Eagles, a sacrifice bunt by Cody Gallegos put the runs into scoring position, and a long 2 RBI double into center field by Jax Alley made it a 4-0 ballgame.

Prosper scored their final 3 runs in the top of the seventh — Gallegos led things off with a sharp single into left, Connor Jackson brought him around to score with an RBI single into center, Dalton Davis picked up an RBI with a hard-hit double into center, and Luke Johnson picked up the final RBI for Prosper with a sac fly into right field.

The incredible job by the Prosper starter, Jacob Cosner, secured the Eagles victory. Cosner went a full seven innings only giving up a single in the bottom of the seventh and striking out 14 McKinney batters.

“He’s starting to get back into form,” Eagles head coach Rick Carpenter said of Cosner’s performance, “that’s the way he threw most of the time his first few years, then he developed a bit of an arm issue, luckily it wasn’t anything too serious just an impingement and with hard work he’s made his way back and is pitching great for us.”

Alley wrapped up his night going 1-3 with 2 RBIs, Jackson went 1-2 with an RBI and 2 runs scored, Davis went 2-5 with an RBI, Johnson went 1-4 with an RBI, Gallegos went 1-3 with a run scored, Braden Webb went 1-3 with 2 runs scored, and Adam Sherrif went 1-4.

The Eagles move to 2-0 in district play and will hope to continue their success against Plano East on Tuesday.
