The Eagles Junior Varsity baseball squad dismantled the Melissa Cardinals, 11-3, in their non-conference match-up on Saturday, March. 2.

Melissa kicked off the games scoring in the bottom of the first, a single and a wild pitch set up a scoring opportunity that the Cardinals capitalized on with a deep double to left field, giving the Cardinals an early and short-lived 1-0 lead.

Prosper tied things up in the top of the second — an error by the Cardinals shortstop, followed up by a sharp hit single by the Eagles set up the scoring opportunity, the Eagles made the most of it with a hard-hit fielder’s choice that scored one and tied up the game at 1-1 before two strikeouts ended the Eagles inning.

The Eagles JV exploded for three runs in the top of the third – the first run came after a single and an error put runners on second and third, an errant play by the Cardinals first baseman allowed one Eagle to cross the plate, making it a 2-1 ballgame. A fielder’s choice brought around another Prosper runner and smack into centerfield for an RBI single brought around the last run of the inning for Prosper, giving the Eagles a 4-1 lead.

Melissa managed to scratch another run in the bottom of the third after an error by the Eagles second baseman, making it a 4-2 game.

Prosper fired back with 2 runs in the top of the fourth, both runs coming off of 2 bullets of singles into the outfield, this allowed the Eagles to take a dominant 6-2 lead.

The Eagles did the last of their scoring in the top of the fifth — a hit-by-pitch and two back-to-back doubles gave the Eagles 2 more runs in a hurry, then with 2 outs in the inning the Eagles continued to scratch runs across with the help of 4 more Prosper walks followed by a hit-by-pitch, which not only showed that the Melissa pitching was struggling, but that the Eagles batters have the patience and ability to manufacture runs however possible. This final dominant inning gave Prosper their final lead of the ballgame.

For Junior Varsity — Jackson Berry went 2-4 with 2 RBI’s, Easton Carmichael went 1-3 with 3 RBI’s, and Clay Kindinger went 1-2 with 1 RBI.

The JV Eagles will be squaring off against Dallas Jesuit on March.7.
