The Lady Eagles pummeled the Flower Mound Lady Jaguars, 11-3, in three innings in their non-conference matchup on March. 2.
Prosper started the game off hot in the top of the first inning, putting together a walk to lead things off followed by a sharp single to left to get into scoring position. A wild pitch brought the Lady Eagles runner around to score, breaking the ice and giving Prosper a 1-0 lead.
The bases were now loaded in the top of the first with the only 1 out in the inning, the Lady Eagles made the most of it with a bullet into the center by Marisa Mejia to pick up 3 RBI’s and make it a 4-0 Prosper lead. Prosper managed to scratch one more run across on a wild pitch, making it a 5 run first inning overall.
The Lady Eagles poured it on in the top of the second after picking up 2 outs early, an error by the Lady Jaguars first baseman started the onslaught — an error by Flower Mound allowed a Prosper runner to cross, another hard-hit single by Mejia brought around 2 more Lady Eagle runs, and a deep double to left by Marina Karnes gave the Lady Eagles another 2 runs and a 10-0 lead over Flower Mound going into the bottom of the second.
Flower Mound did not go quietly, however, scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the second — the Lady Jaguars strung together 4 singles and 2 walks to make it a 10-3 ballgame, showing some life and a potential comeback.
Unfortunately for Flower Mound, the Lady Eagles scored 1 more run in the top of the third off of a walk, causing the game to be called due to run differential.
Mejia ended her solid game going 2-2 with 3 RBI’s, Karnes wrapped things up going 2-2 with 2 RBI’s, and Abbey Beasely was credited with the win for Prosper with 1.1 innings pitched, 3 earned runs, 3 walks, and 2 strikeouts.
Prosper will square off against McKinney on March. 5.
