The Prosper Town council is seeking volunteers to fill 20 positions on its boards and commissions for this year .

In a press release, town secretary Robyn Battle said the opportunity to serve on the various boards presents an opportunity for Prosper residents to influence and shape the future of the growing town.

“Serving as a volunteer on boards and commissions is an impactful way that citizens can participate in the community's decision-making process,” Battle said . “The Council encourages all eligible citizens to step forward and consider serving .”

Applicants will be considered for positions on the Planning and Zoning Commission, the Economic Development board, the Parks and Recreation board, the Library board and the board of Adjustment/Construction Board of Appeals.

Each respective board and commission advises the Town Council on policy development and makes recommendations on administration of services.

According to the release, potential members are required to fill out an application, attend regularly-scheduled meetings and agree to serve a full term. Applicants must be registered to vote and have lived in Prosper for at least one year at the time of applying.

Battle said potential members and incumbent members could be interviewed by Council members to “gauge the applicant's suitability for specific positions.”

Former Town Councilman and Economic Development board member David Bristol said the application process has become more competitive with Prosper's growth over the past six years he's served.

“As the community grows, we get more and more talented members.” Bristol said. “At one point, we had to really solicit people to get enough applicants, but I don't think that's going to be a problem this year.”

Bristol has served on both the town council and the economic development board. He said serving on the board provides him the opportunity to shape the future of the town he calls home.

“I think (serving) is very important, you have a direct impact on the community,” Bristol said.

Applications may be obtained electronically at or from the Town Secretary at Town Hall, 121 W. Broadway.

Applications for board and commission positions will be accepted until Aug. 4

A reception will occur on Aug. 22 at 5 p.m. to allow applicants to learn more about board service and interact with council and staff members. Town Council will appoint members in September, becoming effective on Oct. 1.

“The Council encourages all eligible citizens to step forward and consider serving,” Battle said.
