Ben Rogers from 105.3 The Fan’s “Ben and Skin Show” is set to host a charity event at the Light Farms Barnyard in Celina for a friend battling cancer. It will take place on Saturday, July 22, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

The event is to support Bruce Thompson, who was recently diagnosed with deep lobe parotid gland cancer after a life-threatening experience during a youth baseball game in Prosper three months ago.

Thompson is a neighbor and close friend of Rogers, who has helped kickstart a foundation called “WinTheDay,” created to help and support local cancer fighters.

“(Thompson’s) very serious about it not being just for him to the point that he started this charity,” Rogers said. “We had to tell him that’s OK, but the first event will be for you.”

The event will feature a variety of entertainment opportunities, including live music, food trucks, a cornhole tournament and live auction.

The auction includes nearly a dozen desirable options. Available for bidding are youth camps in Prosper with Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Cole Beasley, former Texas Rangers Derek Holland and David Murphy, as well as breakfast and lunch with Rangers general manager John Daniels and Mavericks president Donnie Nelson.

Rogers said everyone he’s reached out to has been more than willing to help, and sees the fundraiser as a great way to bring people together for a good cause.

“You can never measure the heart of this amazing community,” Rogers said. “It’s the most special place on the planet, and this is just another reason why.”

All proceeds from the event will benefit Thompson and his family. Attendance is free for everyone. For more information or to place bids in the silent auction online, visit
