From Staff Reports
On Sept. 7, the PHS Cross Country team hosted the second Annual Eagle XC Invitational at Myers Park in McKinney. Both squads finished third in the team standings, with the boys’ falling to district foe Frisco Wakeland and 5A Coppell, and the girls lost to 3-time state champion Highland Park and district rival Frisco Heritage.
The bright spots for the Lady Eagles were medalists Freshman Allie Taylor in third place, sophomore Kyra Drobny in seventh place, and Junior Kristen Howell in 12th place out of 135 runners.
On the boys’ side, Senior Ryan Cleary was the lone medalist, finishing in third place of 132 runners.
The most exciting part of the event was the appearance of 1960 Olympic Champion Earl Young, who spoke to the crowd about the importance of fitness and told his testimony about his battle with Leukemia. Through the silent auction and 5k Fun Run hosted by The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the Eagles and the Prosper community raised over $2,200 for this great cause. Mark your calendars for the same weekend in 2014, and come on out and show your support.
