There’s a saying in baseball that goes good pitching always beats good hitting.

Well, fortunately for the Alice American Little League all-stars, they had both great pitching and great hitting as they breezed through the District 22 tournament.

The tournament began at Bobby Cuellar Park in Alice, but was moved to Hebbronville because of lighting issues in Alice.

Alice American won the tournament’s championship game by beating Hebbronville, 1-0, Tuesday night. It was the fewest runs Alice American had scored in the tournament, but they could afford it since pitcher Josh Camarillo threw a no-hitter.

Alice beat Freer, 13-1, in the first game of the tournament. Ricky Gonzales had a no-hitter in that game as well.

Alejandro Asevedo threw a no-hitter in a 10-0 win against Falfurrias.

Alice American advanced to the title game by beating Hebbronville, 5-1.d in the bottom of the fifth and held on for the victory.
