TYLER – The Prosper bats got going during the middle innings in Game 2 of the Eagles’ Class 5A Region II quarterfinal series against Hallsville and the offensive outburst carried the way to a sweep, 9-2, on Friday, May 18.
Prosper (33-6) advanced to the region semifinals for the fifth time in seven seasons but the first since 2015 and will face Cleburne (35-1) for a spot in the region final. Game 1 of the series is at Prosper at 7 p.m. on Thursday and Game 2 is at 1:30 p.m. on Friday at Cleburne. A third game, if necessary, would be at 7 p.m. on Saturday at a site to be determined.
Jax Alley was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and scored, Kendall Foster was 2-for-4, drove in a run and scored and Connor Jackson singled, walked three times and scored twice for the Eagles, who tied the game at one in the third inning and then took the lead for good.
Prosper scored twice in the fourth and four times in the fifth to pull away.
In the third, Jackson and Braden Webb had back-to-back two-out walks before Foster’s RBI single to left.
The Eagles took a 3-1 advantage when it loaded the bases to open the fourth – Luke Johnson was hit by a pitch, Taylor Pendley walked and Alley singled – before Tate Starks drove in a run with a groundout and Jacob Cosner had a sacrifice fly to center.
It was 7-1 in the fifth when Pendley had a sacrifice fly after Prosper loaded the bases with one out – singled from Foster and Johnson were sandwiched around a Dawson Zey walk – and Alley followed with a two-run double to left. He then scored on an error.
The Eagles closed out the scoring with runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
Conner Jackson did not allow an earned run and scattered three hits and five walks, finishing with three strikeouts.
Prosper opened the series with a 6-0 victory on Thursday, May 17. Braden Carmichael fired a four-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and no walks.
Braden Webb was 2-for-4 with a home run, double, two RBI and scored twice, Johnson singled and drove in two runs, Connor Jackson doubled, drove in a run and scored and Kendall Foster doubled and scored for the Eagles, who scored all their runs after the third inning.
Hallsville kept pace with Prosper through the first couple of innings before the Eagles took a 3-0 advantage in the bottom of the fourth.
With one out, Webb doubled, Foster walked and Dawson Zey had an RBI single to center. Johnson followed with a two-run hit to left.
Webb had a one-out two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth following a walk by Jackson.
The Eagles made it 6-0 in the sixth with a two-out RBI double by Jackson. Cody Gallegos walked to opening the inning, Alley singled and Connor Jackson came through after a pair of strikeouts to extend the lead.
