KINGSVILLE — The Bishop Lady Badgers again got the best of the San Diego Lady Vaqueros in the state playoffs.

The Lady Badgers took full advantage of an off-night by the Lady Vaqueros to win Game 1 of their best-of-three area playoff series, 11-3, Thursday night at Texas A&M University-Kingsville.

San Diego scored only two runs in the first inning and one in the fifth in the eight-run loss. The Lady Vaqueros accounted for seven hits, but were tagged with an uncharacteristic five errors in the seven-inning game.

Game 2 of the playoff series is at 7 p.m. Friday at TAMUK. The Lady Badgers upset the Lady Vaqueros in the playoff a year ago by beating them twice and knocking them out of the postseason in the area round.

Senior Marlena Martinez started for San Diego. She was relieved after Bishop scored four in the first inning and three in the second.

Lianna Vela led San Diego by going 2-for-4.
