The playoff train is set to leave the station next week, and several schools are desperately hoping to find a way on.

Others already have their tickets, but are still looking to find the best seat.

The latter situation especially applies to District 3-5A. All four playoff participants have been decided with two games remaining, but we might not know until after Friday who'll be sitting where when the whistle blows.

Canyon hosts Plainview today at 5 p.m. in the first game of a two-game series which has the biggest seeding implications in 3-5A. The host Eagles (20-8, 8-4 in district) are fourth in the district, a game behind Plainview (11-19, 9-3), and if they're going to overtake the Bulldogs for that third seed, they need to sweep them this week, winning both today and Friday at 5 p.m. in Plainview.

If the Bulldogs win just once this week, they'll be no worse than the No. 3 seed in the district and still have a shot at No. 2. For that to happen, though, Randall (18-10, 10-2) has to lose at least once to Palo Duro (12-14, 3-9) this week, starting with today's 5 p.m. game at Palo Duro,

Randall can also move up in the standings, but just like Plainview needs the Raiders to lose, the Raiders need district leader Amarillo High (19-8-1, 11-1) to lose at least once to Dumas (12-12, 5-7) this week to have a shot to at least share the district championship and perhaps grab the No. 1 playoff seed.

Amarillo High is obviously in the best shape of all the 3-5A playoff teams, and the Sandies can finish no worse than second in the district. They travel to Dumas today at 5 p.m. and will clinch the district title with a win and a Randall loss. No matter what happens, they'll clinch the outright title if they win both today and at Friday at  5 p.m. at Sandie Field.

In District 2-6A, things are painfully clear-cut for Tascosa. The Rebels (11-18, 4-9) are tied for fifth in the district, two games behind Odessa Permian (19-12, 6-7).

They play Permian twice this week, starting at 4:30 p.m. today in Odessa, and they need to win both games to even have a shot at the postseason. One loss and the Rebels are eliminated.

At the other end of that spectrum in District 1-4A is Bushland. The Falcons (22-4, 6-0) held a 2 1/2 game lead going into this week and had already clinched a playoff spot. If they beat Dalhart today at 4:30 p.m. or Pampa on Friday, they'll clinch the district title and the No. 1 seed.

Five area teams make top 10: With their lofty standings in their respective districts, Amarillo High and Bushland are both in the top 10 of this week's Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association polls.

For the first time since the beginning of the season, Amarillo High is in the top 10 in Class 5A, coming in at No. this week. Bushland, which has spent a good chunk of the season ranked high, is at No. 6 in Class 4A.

Clarendon (20-2) continues to hold steady in Class 2A, coming in at No. 8.

The Panhandle is best represented in Class 1A, with two teams in the top 10. Nazareth (7-3) is the area's highest ranked team at No. 3, while Booker (7-5) comes in at No. 6.
