FRISCO — For the fourth consecutive year, the Prosper High School boys golf team will advance to the Regional Tournament after securing high marks at the District 14-5A Tournament on April 11-12.
The team had a total of twelve athletes compete at district, separated into two teams — Prosper Green and Prosper White. The two additional golfers were listed as medalists for the Eagles.
Prosper Green, consisting of Cole Lantz, Marco Punzo, Jacob Strong, Josh Knight and Cameron Merryman, finished first as a team, while Prosper White, consisting of Connor Keene, Cooper Hicks, Noah Blocher, Austin Davis and Jake Hughes, took home third, narrowly edging out McKinney North for the placing.
Individually, senior Marco Punzo earned second place honors, while medalist Drew Thompson took home third. In a tough field of competitive athletes, eleven total golfers finished within the Top-25.
The Prosper Green team and medalist Drew Thompson will move on to the Regional Tournament, which will be held at the Rockwall Golf and Athletic Club on April 23-24.
A state berth is on the line for the Eagles; last year the team sent former golfer Graham Hutchison, where he placed 3rd overall.
The girls team will also be competing at the Regional Tournament following the boys competition on April 25-26. The team of Haili Moore, Emily Nystrom, Victoria Buelow, Caroline Weatherly and Aly Schnagl will make up the Prosper Green team.
