The San Diego Lady Vaqueros have quietly fought through the 2018 season, and the steady grind is paying off.

Following Friday’s 5-2 District 30-3A victory against George West, the Lady Vaqueros sit all alone at No.14 in Class 3A, according to the Texas Girls Coaches Association. San Diego has a season record of 14-6 on the TGCA poll.

San Diego relied on late-inning heroics to beat George West in their last time out. With the game tied at 2-2 in the top of the eight inning, Zaliegh Perez scored the go-ahead run with an RBI double. The Lady Longhorns had just come from behind and tied the game in the bottom of the seventh.

The Lady Vaqueros totaled eight hits. Marlena Martinez and Leandra Bazan led the way with two hits each.

San Diego is at home Friday night against 30-5A foe Dilley. Game time is 7 p.m.
