For the second time this season, freshman pitcher Abbey Beasley held the RL Turner Lions scoreless, only allowing one hit in her five innings of work on Friday, April 6 as Prosper walked away with the clear victory, 16-0.

The Lady Eagles took their lead quick, scoring nine runs in the top of the first.

Prosper started the inning with back-to-back singles by shortstop Jessica Malan and second baseman Avery Colclaser. Both were bunt hits. A double steal of second and third base, followed by a pop out and an error by the Lion’s third baseman, lead to the Lady Eagle’s first run.

Third baseman Julia Bumford followed with an RBI single and first baseman Skylar Phillips followed that with a walk to load the bases with one out. Left fielder Marina Karnes hit a grand slam on a 1-1 count to give Prosper a 6-0 lead with just one out.

As the final score tells you, the scoring didn’t stop there. A single by the pitcher Beasley, a bunt by right fielder Shelby Lantz, another error by the Lions and Malan’s second single of the inning would lead to another run.

Colclaser walked to load the bases once again, catcher Bailey Zornes hit a pop fly to the shortstop for the second out of the inning and first baseman Marisa Mejia hit a single to center field to get two RBIs and the final two runs for Prosper in the inning.

Turner was able to keep the Lady Eagles scoreless in the second inning, the only inning Prosper didn’t score in.

Bumford and Mejia each hit a run in to make it 11-0 in the third, while a five-run fourth inning led to an early end to the game.

Turner had eight errors, making just five of Prosper’s 16 runs earned. The Lady Eagles had 13 hits.

Beasley pitched four innings, giving up just one hit, no walks and striking out five.

Malan went 3-for-3 with an RBI, scoring two runs, and Bumford went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, scoring two runs. Mejia and Karnes each had a four RBI game.

In their two games against RL Turner this year, the Lady Eagles outscored them 26-0. Beasley pitched 10 shutout innings, allowing just one hit and one walk. She struck out 18 of 33 batters she faced.

The Lady Eagles will next play the McKinney North Bulldogs on Thursday, April 12 at Prosper at 7 p.m.
