SAN DIEGO — With her senior season behind her and her future already in place, San Diego High School’s Marlena Martinez picked up another basketball honor Tuesday.

San Diego’s leading scorer this season was named Class 3A All-State by the Texas Girls Coaches Association.

Martinez was among was one of only a few South Texas athletes to earn the honor. Freer senior Deedra Lopez and Jaclynn Utley were named Class 2A All-State.

Martinez signed on to continue her basketball career in the junior college ranks at Coastal Bend College in Beeville.

As a senior in 2018, Martinez had some impressive statistics. She averaged 19.5 points along with 4.8 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 5.6 steals a game.

Martinez was the District 30-3A MVP, a 2016-17 TGCA All-State selection and a 2017-18 All-Region Player and a First-Team All-South Texas selection.
