It’s deja vu all over again. Once against the Lady Eagles have pitched a no-hitter. That’s three games in a row for Prosper pitchers not to allow a hit, two starts in a row for Senior Rachel Eckrote.

In her three starts in district play, Eckrote has struck out 40 batters, hasn’t allowed a hit in 12 straight innings and have left opponents scoreless in 19 innings.

“She is confident and determined in the circle and she knows she has the defense to back her up,” head coach Staci Jackson said.

Eckrote ended the game on Wednesday, March 14 with seven no-hit innings, 13 strikeouts and five walks. Two of those walks came in the bottom of the seventh but she got out of the two-on one-out jam thanks to a strikeout, foul out and groundball.

The Lady Eagles are now 4-0 in district play, all four games have been shutouts. Beasley and Eckrote have combined for 53 strikeouts, 18 hitless innings and 35 shutout innings in their four district games.

With McKinney North accumulating six errors throughout the game, The Lady Eagles capitalized on it with only three of their eight runs being earned. They’ve also been keeping the ball in play, striking out just twice throughout the night.

“We focused a lot on offense this off-season and about having quality at bats over ‘just getting hits,’” Jackson said. “Our approach at the plate has been great and we have been making great adjustments.”

With back-to-back singles by Jessica Malan and Avery Colclaser, and Bailey Zornes at-bat, an error gives Prosper their first run of the night.

Marisa Mejia continued the scoring with a double to bring in Zornes and Colclaser.

Batting leadoff, Malan went 3-for-4, scoring two runs and getting one RBI.

“As a leadoff hitter you have to have no fear and be able to see a lot of pitches and that is what Jessica is doing for us,” Jackson said. “Her job is to get on base anyway she can so that we can utilize her speed on the bases.”

Mejia also went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.

Prosper would continue with two runs in the fourth, a run in the fifth and two more in the 7th to give them their 8-0 victory.

Their next game will be Tuesday, March 20 at home against The Colony at 7 p.m.
