The Prosper Lady Eagles went 5-1 at the North DFW Tournament and opened things up with an 8-0 victory in five innings against Fort Worth Paschal on Thursday, March 1.
In her five innings of work, senior Rachel Eckrote pitched a one-hitter. She held the Lady Panthers hitless until giving up a single in the fourth inning. She walked just two and added 11 strikeouts.
The offence came alive in the second inning to back up Eckrote’s spectacular pitching. Prosper scored six runs in the second as sophomore Lexi Bell hit a two-run double and senior Bailey Zornes followed with a two-run homer.
Prosper 7, Marcus 6 (5)
Prosper swept Day 1 of the tournament by coming back from a 6-2 deficit in the top of the fifth inning. Down by four runs, the Lady Eagles scored five runs to take the game from Marcus.
Prosper started the inning with back-to-back walks. Sophomore Marina Karnes followed with a double to get a run in.
Not to be outdone, junior pitcher Marisa Mejia followed Karnes’s double with a three-run home run to tie the game. Bell came up with two outs and doubled to give the Lady Eagles their lead.
Canyon 8, Prosper 1 (4)
Prosper got into trouble early in their first game of day two. After Mejia got out of a jam in the first inning with runners on the corners and two outs, Canyon capitalized in the second inning putting up an eight spot.
Mejia only made it through one and one-third inning before handing the ball over to Eckrote. Mejia got the loss after giving up seven runs on five hits and three walks, she struck out two.
Prosper 17, Colorado City 0 (5)
While their first game didn’t go as planned, the Lady Eagles clearly took the break between games to clear their heads and focus for the second game.
Freshmen pitcher Abbey Beasley was the star of the game. She pitched a solid five innings, only giving up one hit in the game. She didn’t walk a single batter and she struck out eight.
Not only did she have a great game in the circle, she had a great game in the batters box. She went 2-for-3 with a walk and collected five RBI.
Prosper started the scoring early, with four runs in the first inning. Followed by a run in the third, eight runs in the fourth and finally four more runs in the fifth.
Prosper 3, Plano East 2 (5)
Eckrote got the start against the Lady Panthers for the first game on Saturday. Going five innings, she allowed just two runs on three hits and two walks. She struck out seven in her complete game win.
Beasley added to her RBI count from Friday, adding two more.
Prosper 10, Lone Star 2
The Lady Eagles got to work quickly putting up an eight spot in the second inning against the Lady Rangers. Sophomore lead off the inning with a double, stole second, and then scored on an error by Lone Star’s catcher.
Beasley followed that with a solo homer.
With two outs in the inning, Zornes hit a two-run double, giving Prosper a 4-0 lead. Mejia came up with an RBI single.
With her second at-bat of the inning, Bumford hit a three-run home run to give the Lady Eagles an early 8-0 lead.
After Lone Star scored two in the bottom of the second, Prosper answer with a two-run single by Zornes, giving her a four-RBI night.
Beasley got the win, going five innings and giving up just two runs on five hits and three walks. She struck out two.
Prosper headed into district play with a 10-5 record on the season.
