PROSPER — The Prosper High School Lady Eagles soccer team defeated Carrollton Creekview on Friday night, but it wasn’t a game for the faint of heart.
After going down 1-0 early in the first half, head coach Rafael Flores and his squad used every remaining minute of the game to equalize and eventually beat the Lady Mustangs.
“It was a crazy one for sure,” Flores said. “We had a bunch of players out due to the flu, injuries, and club, [but] we only gave up one shot all game.”
That one shot would prove to be a pivotal moment for Prosper; for the first time all season, the Lady Eagles were the ones chasing an equalizer. For the rest of the first half, the team ramped up their attack to get on the board but couldn’t find the golden goal.
It took most of the game and what seemed like a hundred scoring opportunities, but finally the Lady Eagles converted a late corner kick with just 15 minutes left to play. With the momentum built from scoring, the team dished out two more goals before the end of the game to defeat Creekview 3-1.
The three goals were scored by junior Sage DaCosta, junior Carlie Massingale and newcomer Kaitlyn Giametta, who has found her way into the lineup after playing basketball.
“We played her with the JV against North and the game against The Colony was her first with the varsity,” Flores said about Giametta. “It’s early on, but we hope to see her contribute to the team and make an impact.”
The Lady Eagles remain undefeated in district, still sitting in first place with six straight wins. Creekview’s goal was the first that Prosper has given up in district play.
They will head into week four 6-0 looking to complete the first cycle of district undefeated as they play Lake Dallas on Tuesday, Feb. 20 before starting the second leg against Little Elm on Friday, Feb. 23.
