The Prosper boys and girls basketball teams combined to go undefeated in a total of three games on Monday, Dec. 18 and Thursday, Dec. 21. Each squad has only one loss thus far this season.
The boys team continued its dominant start with a pair of wins, improving to 15-1 overall. The Eagles, ranked No. 6 in 5A by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, defeated Turner 71-22 and followed up with a 76-25 win over Dallas HSAA.
Those games extended the winning streak to three games for Prosper since falling to Richardson on Dec. 8. The most recent pair of wins each came by more than 40 points, the two largest margins of victory of the season.
Prosper’s win over Turner came easy after the first quarter, when the Eagles outscored their opponent 25-3. They quickly built on that and led 49-12 at halftime. Senior Kyle Jessen led the team with 20 points, including 4-for-8 shooting from three-point range. Junior Josh Davis contributed 10 points, nine rebounds and four assists, and Zach Wrightsil also added 10 points of his own.
Against Dallas HSAA, it was Wrightsil who put up big numbers, finishing with a double-double. He scored 19 points on 9-for-11 shooting from the field and snagged 11 rebounds. Davis contributed with 11 points. As a team, Prosper outscored HSAA by 18 in the first quarter and did not let up late, holding the opposition scoreless in the fourth quarter.
The Prosper Lady Eagles extended its winning streak to 10 games with the most lopsided win of the season, 79-20 against Turner on Dec. 18. Prosper has won each of its games against District 14-5A opponents by an average of 48 points per game.
The most recent win came with a balanced offensive attack. Jordyn Oliver and Megan Mossinger each scored 12 points, while Mackenzie Hewitt added 10. Following them were Maddie Cleary (nine points), Mackenzie Verhulst (9 points) and Maddy Willis-Rosa with eight.
Both the Prosper boys and girls basketball teams have a series of games beginning Dec. 27. The boys head to the Dallas Coca-Cola Tournament while the girls prepare for the Spring Creek Tournament. Each event ends Thursday, Dec. 29.
