The Prosper wrestling team had a dominant overall performance on Friday, Dec. 1 and Saturday, Dec. 2, placing first overall among 18 schools at Colleyville Heritage Tournament.

Prosper finished with 225 total points, extremely far ahead of second place Keller Timber Creek (133.5 points) and third place Euless Trinity (95 points). In total, 13 of the 15 Prosper individual wrestlers finished in the top four of their respective weight classes, earning 11 medals altogether.

The competing schools were mostly 5A programs with a few 6A participants scattered in the overall group.

“Although the level of teams wouldn’t be quite as strong, I knew there would be tough individuals sprinkled throughout the weight classes,” Prosper head coach Sion King said. “I was very pleased with how we performed this weekend.”

King said multiple different individuals stood out, including Christian Centrella, Igor Costa, Brayden Brandold and Ryan Bonds. On the girls side, senior Christina Williams led the way and will soon be joined by fellow senior and leader Alyssa Alvarez, who will compete for the first time on Friday, Dec. 8.

“Many of our up and coming varsity kids really stepped up on both the boys and girls teams,” King said. “It was a great tournament to lead us into a very tough week.”

Prosper, now ranked No. 3 among all 5A schools in the state, moves on to face Allen (No. 1 in 6A) in a dual hosted at Prosper on Wednesday, Dec. 6. Shortly after that, the boys will compete in the Titan Games at Centennial High while the girls head to the Texas Ladies Classic at Frisco High.
