PROSPER — The Prosper High School golf program wrapped up their fall season in November with a series of tournaments. Girls’ coach Elizabeth Hamilton and boys’ Coach Cody Vanderford’s squads ended the season on a high note, competing with some very tough opponents.
Led by Hamilton, the girls varsity team of Haili Moore, Emily Nystrom, Cassidy McAlpine, Caroline Weatherly and Victoria Buelow headed east for the Lady Tiger Classic at Texarkana Country Club on Nov. 10-11. Despite a hard-fought battle against 6A programs, the girls landed just outside of the Top 10 in tournament placing. Hamilton said they did improve their two-day total by nine strokes, however. The tournament was also good preparation for the upcoming spring season, which will begin on Jan. 15-16 when the team heads to the TPC Four Seasons tournament.
Just up the road, the boys — Logan Jacobson, Patrick Mann, Jake Hughes, Zach Green and Blake Littleton — and girls — Maddy Huxford, Sierra Topper, Carlee Tinsley, Ally Schnagl and Savannah Dodson — JV teams headed to the Byron Nelson Fall Invitational in Trophy Club on Nov. 13. Both teams were very successful on the green, taking home second place overall, while Logan Jacobson placed second individually.
Coach Vanderford and the Varsity II Boys competed in the Jaguar Fall Classic on Nov. 14. The team, consisting of Jackson Thies, Drew Thompson, Connor Keene, Austin Davis and Cooper Hicks, place third at Tour 18.
And wrapping up their season, the boys Varsity I squad participated with the JV teams at the Byron Nelson Fall Invitational in Trophy Club on Nov. 14. Similar to the girl’s tournament in Texarkana, the team competed against a pool of strong 5 and 6A schools.
“For both the boys and girls, the final tournament was a good chance to evaluate our areas of focus over the winter,” said Hamilton.
The teams will have short break over the winter before heading back out to the green for the spring season. They will use the time to prepare for the district championship and postseason tournaments.
