MCKINNEY — It was a tough break for the Prosper tennis team this week, as they dropped their district match to McKinney North 4-15. This was the team’s first district loss of the season, as they have seen success in the previous three matches in District 14-5A.

Despite the loss, there are a many positives that head coach Mandy Bowling is focusing on. Several players on the team are undefeated in district play, including sophomore Brock Ladehoff, who went on to win his singles match after clinching a third-set tiebreaker. In doubles play, the duo of freshman Jett Anderson and sophomore Jordan Fisher are also undefeated at the Mixed Doubles position, along with senior Brandon Bonaparte and freshman Josh Stephens at the Boys Doubles spot.

Although Prosper was not the victor in the contest, Bowling said the match was not without its positives.

“The score did not reflect how [the team] played,” she said. “The energy levels were high and the hard work definitely showed as we are improving with every match.”

Additionally, Bowling added that the team was persistent in each of their matches, and refused to give up, which is something she takes great pride in.

“They did not stop playing hard until the matches were all over. I am proud of each and every one of them.”

The Eagles are now 3-1 in District 14-5A. The JV team will take on North on Thursday, Sept. 21 at home at 4 p.m. The varsity will take the week to rest before playing its next match against the Colony at home Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 4 p.m.
