CARROLLTON – The Prosper tennis team extended their winning streak to two in district on Friday after defeating Carrollton Newman Smith in the second district match of the season.

The team hopped on the bus and traveled down to the Newman Smith High School tennis courts to take on the Trojans. The Eagles previously defeated Little Elm on Tuesday, and are now 2-0 in district play.

The girls team swept all their matches on Friday, while senior Brandon Bonaparte and freshman Josh Stephen battled together to win their doubles match. The duo won their first set before dropping the second. The boys rallied back to take the third set tiebreaker 10-3.

“The way they communicate and push through the hard points is incredible,” said head coach Mandy Bowling about the boys’ doubles performance. “They really work together well — encouraging each other and pushing each other every point.”

Bowling, who is now 2-0 in district in her first season as Prosper head coach, continues to emphasize how proud she is of the work the players are putting in on and off the court.

“It was overall a solid win,” Bowling said. “The team is continuing to work very hard and their hard work is paying off.”

The team will rest up over the weekend before heading into next week. The Eagles have another district match, this time at home.
