The Prosper baseball team is headed into the playoffs on a high note after two victories over Lake Dallas in the final week of the season. The Eagles are now riding a four-game win streak.

Prosper 6, Lake Dallas 2

Prosper got off to an early lead and held on for the win on the road on Monday, April 25.

The Eagles scored four runs in the second inning, giving starting pitcher Jamie Janco some breathing room on the mound. Janco got the win and threw a complete game, allowing only five hits, one walk and two runs while notching eight strikeouts.

Janco had limited time to prepare after teammate Jacob Cosner injured his shoulder in pre-game warmups. Cosner is expected to visit a doctor before the playoffs begin.

“That was a difficult thing to do,” head coach Rick Carpenter said. “He responded to it well, to say the least.”

Prosper committed three errors in the field as a team but made up for it on offense. Their hitters combined for five doubles, two of which came from Jaden Ford. The final two runs for Prosper came in the seventh inning.

“We’ve been swinging the bat really well lately,” Carpenter said. “It makes things a lot easier and takes pressure off the pitchers and defense.”

Prosper 8, Lake Dallas 3

The Eagles came back home on Thursday, April 28, and had another strong offensive night, scoring eight runs on eight hits on the way to the victory.

Lake Dallas got on the board first in the third inning, going up 2-0 against Prosper pitcher Braden Carmichael. In the bottom half of the frame, the Eagles doubled their opponent’s total with four runs.

Two innings later, Prosper put up four additional runs to put the game out of reach. Kyle Grimsley led the way, going 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three runs batted in.

“As long as we just hang in there with pitching and defense, I think we have the capability to hit any pitcher throughout the course of seven innings,” Carpenter said.

Carmichael nearly threw a complete game but was replaced by Jordan Gilson, who recorded the final out. Carmichael allowed five hits, three walks and struck out six. All three runs for Lake Dallas came via home runs.

As of April 24, Prosper is ranked as the No. 10 team in the 5A state rankings provided by They finished in first place in District 14 with a 27-4-1 record.

The Eagles look to advance deep into the playoffs after falling in the regional quarterfinals against Wylie last season. This year, Carpenter said his team is prepared to go even further.

“You can’t always be satisfied with where you’re at. You need to always try to improve,” Carpenter said. “We’re playing well in all phases of the game.”

Prosper will play either Frisco Independence or Frisco Reedy in the bi-district round of the playoffs. The date, time and location are to be determined.
