Softball season is winding down, and with the end of the season quickly approaching, the Prosper Lady Eagles continue to battle for the highest ranking in district standing to make a push for the playoffs. The team ground through the week, posting three wins in three games, including a big victory against McKinney North to secure third place.

Prosper 3, Carrollton Creekview 1

The Lady Eagles softball team members found themselves in a battle for runs against the Lady Mustangs of Creekview. After giving up a run in the third, Prosper managed to get on the board and score two of its own in the fifth inning to gain the lead. Strong defense and tough pitching kept the Lady Mustangs from scoring any more, as pitcher Rachel Eckrote posted seven strikeouts and allowed just four hits in the game. Prosper sealed the match with one final run in the seventh inning to bring the final score to 3-1. At bat, Avery Colclaster went 1 for 3, including an RBI single. Miranda Ortega also had a hit and scored a run. Marina Karnes rounded out the scoring for Prosper, who walked once and also scored a run.

Prosper 10, Lake Dallas 0

In contrast to their game against Creekview, the Lady Eagles breezed by Lake Dallas in just five innings. The team racked up 10 runs in the five innings, scoring off seven hits and three forced errors by the Lady Falcons. Eckrote was again on fire as she threw for three hitless innings, six strikeouts, and just two walks. Relief pitcher Sam Frommer closed the game out with two hitless innings of her own. Besides dominating defensively, Prosper was relentless in their offense. Bailey Zornes and Brooklyn Reiff each scored two runs, with Zornes scoring a double and an RBI and Reiff with two RBIs. Frommer also had two RBIs. Alex Beatty went 1 for 1 with both an RBI and a walk, Natalie Filiatrault had an RBI single and Miranda Ortega had a hit and two runs.

Prosper 4, McKinney North 0

The victory at Lake Dallas, combined with a McKinney North loss to Little Elm, forced a tie-breaker game against the Lady Bulldogs. The game, scheduled for Saturday at 2:30 p.m., would determine third place in District 15-5A. The Lady Eagles were not shy about the challenge, scoring four runs to take a decided 4-0 win over the district opponent and secure the third-place finish. Eckrote was instrumental in the shut-out, pitching in her third win of the week with five strikeouts. Prosper dominated the game offensively – seven hits and six walked sealed the victory, along with three errors by North. Bailey Zornes picked up where she left off at bat with two hits, including an RBI triple and a walk. Avery Colclaster also had a hit and two scored runs, and Natalie Filiatrault had a pair of hits and RBIs each.

The Lady Eagles will begin their playoff journey next week against the second-place team from District 13-5A.
