LITTLE ELM – It has been quite an eventful season for Prosper High School track and field. As the year has progressed, several stars have emerged as front-runners in the district.

“The story of the season so far [for the boys] would be the outstanding running of our distants runners,” said head boys track coach Clinton Hormann in an email. “Also of note, Haley Killinger and Kennedy Adams have battled and broken our school triple jump record twice this season. Both have a great chance for post-district competition.”

The teams recently participated in the district meet on April 11-12 at Little Elm High School, competing against the other district 14-5A teams for a bid in post-season competition. After a tough day of preliminaries, the following athletes moved on to the finals:


Haley Killinger – 2nd place in long jump

McKayla Zimmerman – 2nd place in high jump

Allie Taylor – 4th place in 3200m

Abbie Williams – 3rd place in 3200m


Micah Edwards – 4th in discus

Dre’vyn Boyd – 4th in long jump

Sam Rizzo – 1st in 3200m

Jordan Mossinger 4th in 3200m

During the finals on day two, Prosper High delivered some outstanding performances from both teams, including a record-breaking performance by Killinger. As the 2017 district champion for in the triple jump, Killinger jumped a new school record of 37’ 0.25. She also jumped 17’ 4.75 in the Long Jump, placing second overall and again breaking the school’s previously standing record. McKayla Zimmerman placed second in the high jump, rounding out the field events portion of the meet. The Lady Eagles also excelled in running, with the following athletes advancing to the area meet:

400m relay team (Haley Killinger, Emmaline Nichols, Anna Hornyak, Abbie Williams) – 2nd

100m relay team (Miracle Mahone, Haley Killinger, Peyton Jefferson, Jaelynn Williams) – 3rd

Reign Johnson, 300m hurdles – 3rd, 100m hurdles – 3rd

Tatum Castillo, 800m run – 3rd

Abby Williams, 1600m run – 3rd, 3200m run – 3rd

Allie Taylor, 1600m run – 4th, 3200m run – 4th

The girls team place second overall in District.

On the boys’ side, as promised, the boys distance team stole the show. Sam Rizzo was the district champion for both the 1600m run and the 3200m run, and fellow distance runner Leon Valdman won second place in the 800m run to help secure an overall 3rd place finish in the meet. In addition, the following runners will also be advancing to the area meet:

100m relay team (Wayne Anderson, Raymond Chinamorra, Armon Johnson, Dre’vyn Boyd) – 3rd

200m relay team (Wayne Anderson, Devoncy Maloy, Armon Johnson, Dre’vyn Boyd) – 3rd

400m relay team (Wayne Anderson, Dre’vyn Boyd, Christian Ortiz, Devoncy Maloy) – 3rd

Jordan Mossinger, 3200m run – 4th

Dre’vyn Boyd, long jump – 4th

Micah Edwards, discus – 4th

Travis Dafft, shot put – 4th

Prosper will look to continue its season at the area meet this Thursday at Carrollton Standridge Stadium.
