FRISCO — The Prosper girls’ tennis team competed in the Frisco Heritage tournament on Friday, March 31. They were among eight other teams, including Heritage, Frisco High, Lebanon Trials, Boswell High, Coppell, McKinney North, and Hebron, to travel to Frisco for the competition.
Head tennis coach Jan Brown said the team had a good showing, as several Prosper players placed in the tournament.
Prosper had to beat some of the highest-ranked players at the tournament in order to place, as several of the programs have had successful seasons so far.
Freshman Emmaline Nichols emerged as the victor of the singles side, defeating her opponent from Lebanon Trails in the finals with scores of 6-2 and 6-1. In her ascent to the finals match, she routed the top seeded players in the tournament – which included the third, second, and first seeds of the match.
Seniors Svaksha Iyengar and Reid Lohman took home second place after a high-stakes heartbreaker against the number two seed of Hebron High School. The girls rallied against the Hawks, but fell just short, with scores of 6-4 and 7-6.
The team will be back in action this Thursday and Friday for the district match at the Lewisville Harmon Center.
